in virginia are warning parents about the attempted abduction of a young child. two brothers were walking home near lanise way in bristo yesterday evening when a man tried to snatch the 5-year-old. his older brother who is 9 pushed the boy away from the suspect and then ran for help. neither boy was injured. but police would like to hear from anybody who saw someone or something suspicious. >>> just a week after killing a bill to give the district voting rights because of a rider that weaknd the city's gun laws, they reacted to a stand alone bill during the same thing. the changes could affect the safety of those who work or live in the district. craig melvin joins us with more. craig? >> reporter: doreen, tomorrow marks the start of the next round of congress versus d.c. in a seemingly never ending battle over gun laws and who has the right to make them. this comes as a city still reels over the deaths of four teenagers killed in a drive by shooting not far from here. that was exactly four weeks ago tonight. on what the bill would mean, d.c.'s lone voice in congress is emphatic and clear. >>

into a mine in west virginia. the mine where four workers might still be alive. those miners have been unaccounted for since an explosion on monday that killed 25 miners. officials are hoping that the four miners who are missing were able to make it to an air-tight rescue chamber. early this morning, four rescue teams were sent into the upper big branch mine. they were pulled out when they ran into high levels of dangerous and potentially explosive gasses. the governor of west virginia says families are understanding despite the setback. >> is it disappointing? absolutely. do they understand? they're just as concerned about their fellow miners that we're trying to rescue their loved ones. >> two miners survived the blast and were taken to hospitals. one remains in intensive care. the other was released today. >>> tiger woods back on the golf course down at augusta in georgia today. dan will tell us how that went down there. >> i would say tiger is pleased. his first tournament back for tiger after his sex scandal rocked the sports world. all he does is shoot his best opening round ever

with a calm wind right now, so they've really eased up. for alexandria, virginia, your start this morning, 40 degrees, you're likely to be starting out again in the mid-30s tomorrow morning, frost advisories from howard county through louden, fairfax, foster county, down through culpepper county. these frost advisories go far and wide, even some freeze warnings into pennsylvania and ohio. high pressure will be moving in, and we have two really nice dayses coming our way. another storm system means back to showers and storms, those will have, i think, an effect saturday and late sunday. the storm system gathering energy, picking up steam too. the heat will be through the nation's midsection, and the possibility of a multiday severe weather outbreak. that means the risk of tornado as to. there it is saturday, kentucky, possibility of storms for the derby too. and we have the virginia cup going on saturday. but for us, it's pretty good. because those storms don't hit until the evening. there's high pressure, it moves east. we'll have clear skies to start the day tomorrow. maybe a few high clouds

in roanoke, virginia. 75 in raleigh, north carolina, down south in pittsburgh today got up to 80 degrees. virtually cloud-free skies across the area with high pressure over the area. highs moving away and is going to make way for the next weather front to move in. before it does, a strong southwesterly push for us throughout the day tomorrow. we'll have not only higher temperatures, but low-level moisture. you might notice a touch of humidity in the air. 64. mild overnight. we are going to be starting out in the low to mid 50s this time. probably 57 degrees or so around the district. sorry, folks, hay market, virginia, 59. that weather coming up is across the great lakes right now. it's not the storm it once was. it was a monster of a storm producing snow and chilly air back behind it. thin line of showers right now. more of the storms down through texas. as the system moves to the east, we could have an isolated thunderstorm around our area. look for the rain a little later now. probably not until 9:00 or 10:00 tomorrow. we'll get a chance to get that game in. 73 in st. louis. now 71 in

sunshine. that will warm things up. this morning low temperatures around 30 degrees in virginia piedmont. that looks to be the story again tomorrow. certainly today with the clouds around, high temperatures struggled to get to upper 50s. the scene today was lots of folks enjoying their sunday but dressing a little warmer. they didn't put the heavy coat away just yet. it is mid april. this isn't too uncommon. everybody bundled up a bit today. nice breeze made it feel chilly. high temperature only 59 at national airport, the low 41 this morning. this was the coldest morning since march 28th. it has been a few weeks. back then 38 was our low. tomorrow we are talking about widespread 30s across the area. local areas down in virginia piedmont, towards shan n s shen valley. to the north cooler in the low 50s. that cold air mass was in full force today. it is going to start lift out of near the next 24 to hours. current check on the temperatures from mid 40s to 50. fairly uniform. the breeze out there is mixing up the atmosphere. once the winds go caleratures w. the clouds were around today. yo

virginia. that is coming your way so you'll be getting the rain showers during the overnight hours tonight and we'll probably start out with a fairly wet stretch first thing tomorrow and then i think we'll end up with fairly quite a number of dry hours tomorrow mid to late morning to midafternoon tomorrow before the daytime heating starts to do its thing and that'll cook up the showers with a risk of thunderstorm or two tomorrow as well. the main area of low pressure that's causing this whole mess is still sitting across northern missouri. it's a very slow mover, as it inches its way across the northern parts of the ohio valley. the warm front's going to come through here overnight tonight with that batch of rain. you'll notice the change tomorrow. today we stayed in the low to mid 60s in the clouds tomorrow. we'll break out that sunshine from time to time. we'll have temperatures tomorrow well up into the mid 70s and the reason for the thorpes because all of that extra instability that's coming in. big risk of severe weather late tonight, way down to our south, but for tomorrow that sligh

, maryland up in the panhandle of west virginia powerhouse thunderstorms between 5:00 and 9:00 this evening dumping more than two inches of rain in a short period of time. outside right now on a sunday night here in the nation's capital, a mostly cloudy sky still overhead. temperatures believe it or not, if you blinked you missed it. man did it get warm today. that was a big part of the reason that the thunderstorms got to be like they did. we made 77 degrees for a high temperature downtown today, after a 53-degree start this morning. current temperature is now 59 degrees with a dew point of 55. only .1 inch of rain at the national airport. temperatures back down into the 50s at this time after highs in the 70s. here's a check on doppler over the last hour in time lapse here. you can see the intensity and frequency of the lightning diminishing now. showers and thunderstorms easing up a little bit. here's a look at live doppler. most of it is light to moderate rain showers now. here's the district. there's the northern parts of the capital beltway, montgomery county and towards aspen hill an
